Are You Faking It?

There are a lot of miserable things about living with chronic pain. Not being believed may be the worst. Well, except for the pain.

I remember talking to my son’s wonderful high school principal. William Baylis. At the time, it was taking my son two to six hours to move from bed to school door. Almost every day, Mr. Baylis would greet him at the door, buzz him in, and say ‘glad to see you’. Even if it was 2 in the afternoon.

We were talking about Sean. I said “He’s not faking being sick, he’s faking well.” His principal looked at me. “He’s not doing that good a job.”

And we both laughed.
