Refining the Interface

Many people living with chronic pain are sensitive to the environment.

On the down side, there’s the pain. Allodynia is a condition where modest stimuli – like brushing your hair – triggers pain. It’s common in people who have migraine, regional pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, other conditions. I remember my son cringing from the sound of our cat walking across the floor – two rooms away. When he has a migraine, gentle air on his cheek or dim light are excruciating.

The upside to being sensitive is pleasure. Focusing on the nuances of taste and smell can help relieve pain – or at least distract from it.

Because we know how sensitive people in pain are to their environments, we’ve spend a lot of time focusing on the look and feel of our app. What design professionals call ‘user interface’. This week, our designers are streamlining the interface to make it easy, intuitive, and pleasurable to use.

When you’re in pain, the last thing you need to deal with is irritation.
